As part of the development of The Stories of Newport Lakes, I have been supported by Michael Stewart who has established and championed the grassroots music scene in Newport. He has been a co-conspirator, invited me to community events and has been on the journey of writing the book each step (and chapter) along the way.
In parallel he has written a song. We have learnt from First Nations people how important music, story and art is to creating a connection and relationship with place. This song is long, but it is long because it covers the history, potential and essence of this place.
When you are working with a community, with regenerative development and placemaking, getting that real sense of a place is critical to ensuring that any actions you plan resonate.
